A Growth Mindset vs. A Fixed Mindset
Don’t assume you know how much potential you have. Sometimes the only way to see what you can do is to test yourself. Scott Adams
A farmer does not know the potential of a seed until it is sowed and grows. The farmer has to work hard to maintain the seed and wait patiently for it. The farmer does not uproot the seed in the beginning stage to see how well it is growing.
In this same way, potential is locked up within all of us, and the only way we can learn of this potential is by planting, watering, and carefully cultivating it. That is, by testing and practicing until it unfolds.
Working to discover and activate your potential should be done from a place of rest and peace of mind in order to ensure your longevity.
Potential Takes Time To Grow
It takes time for potential to be revealed. Growth takes time, therefore, ‘Don’t uproot your seed when delays it.’ Watering it, keep sowing, and stop judging it.
The Growth Of Potential
The growth of potential can be affected by our mindset. According to research by Dr. Dwecks, there are two mindsets: a fixed mindset vs. a growth mindset, which indicates how it impacts the individual belief about growth and learning and also fixations about talents and intelligence.
The growth mindsets allow the realization of potential, while the fixed mindset may hinder potential. If a person believes that he/she could still grow and learn they are bound to improve. But if an individual does not think they can ever improve no matter what then they will likely not improve at all.
Instant validation- can also hinder potentials. For example, you post a picture on Instagram, and it has few likes, and you are tempted to delete the post because maybe it is not good enough. Forgetting that you liked it first and shared it and that is it should be the real purpose.
Keep Sowing For You Do Not Know
This reminds me about a story from the Bible – The parable of the Sower
You do not stop sowing (posting) because you do not know how people will receive what you write or post. The ups and downs of life apply to every aspect of life.
You can never know the potential of a seed by looking at your post. The only way to find out its potential is plant it or post it. You will never see it until you sow it or write and post it.
This principle applies to most areas of our lives. For example, I did not know I could cook until I start cooking and now I barely follow any recipe. I look at methods for inspiration and use my own creativity to make my own. Do not be afraid to try new things or adventures because you never know which one will sprout to your success.
The Definition Of Potential – Potential is defined as someone’s or something’s ability to develop, achieve, or succeed. Asad Meah
Potential is not an actuality. It is something one has to nurture. Having potential for something is not enough but working to its full realization is admirable. Like this quote puts it “Potential is a priceless treasure, like gold. All of us have gold hidden within, but we have to dig to get it out.” Joyce Meyer
There is no man living who isn’t capable of doing more than he thinks he can do.” Henry Ford
Many of us at least heard from others that you have this and that potential, or you are a promising person, or you have potential in you. And the reality is all of us have varied potential in us, and much is still untapped. My prayer is that as you read this post it will inspire you to awaken your potential and start the work of faith. And let our dreams come true although some dreams or potential results or harvest are not imminent but could take a lifetime.
“Continuous effort, not strength or intelligence is the key to unlocking our potential.” Winston Churchill. Yet, that should not discourage us but rather encourage us to invest our time and efforts
